85C means an underbust measurement of around 85 centimetres and a cup corresponding to a difference of roughly fifteen centimetres. It is a size with moderate cup volume on a fairly wide band, so the construction has an easier job and an exceptionally wide choice of styles is available, from sporty to decorative.

The band itself is worth attention. At 85, the band is often bought a size too big because it feels more comfortable at first. You see the effect after a few hours: the bra travels up the back and the lower edge of the cup lifts away from the ribs. A correctly chosen band pulls away from your back by two fingers, but no more.

With these proportions, practically every cup type is comfortable to wear. Foam models give a smooth line and work under thin blouses. Wire-free constructions offer freedom at home and at night. Balconettes and semi-padded models come out well under wider necklines, because at a C cup there is no need for maximum support from above.

You will find a similar cup volume in 80D and in 90B. If you are after a particular style, compare both of these sizes on yourself, because they differ mainly in band tension rather than cup volume.
