Wool socks

Wool socks are the warmest category of socks. Wool provides warmth even when damp, making it better suited for the mountains, fishing, and outdoor work than cotton, which chills the foot when wet.

The type of wool matters. Merino is thin and non-itchy, making it suitable for everyday socks and sports shoes. Thicker sheep's wool and blends with acrylic produce winter socks with a distinct, fluffy texture. Almost always, there is an admixture of polyamide or elastane in the composition – this is responsible for the durability of the heel and toes and for preventing the sock from slipping down the calf.

The collection includes winter, work, terry, and thin merino socks, in women's and men's sizes.

Wool requires washing at 30 degrees on a wool program, without fabric softener and without spinning - felting is the result of friction and high temperature, not just water. Dry flat. Shipping in 1-2 business days, free delivery from PLN 199, returns within 14 days.

Wool has one advantage over cotton that is crucial in winter: it insulates even when damp. Wool fibers trap air between their crimps and wick away water vapor instead of becoming saturated with it – which is why feet stay warmer longer in wool socks inside a boot, whereas cotton would become cold and wet.

Different types of wool vary in how they feel against the skin. Merino has fine fibers and is practically non-scratchy, making it suitable for people with sensitive skin and for styles worn directly on the foot. Classic sheep's wool is thicker and warmer but can be more noticeable. Alpaca is lightweight and very warm. Blends with polyamide or acrylic are more durable and less prone to felting, at the expense of some natural properties.

Where to use them? For winter boots, mountain trips, at home instead of slippers, and whenever your feet get cold quickly. Wool inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria, so these socks can be worn longer between washes than cotton ones.

What to watch out for? Thickness – a thick wool sock can reduce shoe size by half, so in tight footwear, the effect will be counterproductive as compression impairs circulation. Composition: if wool content is below a dozen percent, thermal properties are closer to acrylic. And washing: wool program at up to 30 degrees, no fabric softener, flat drying. High temperatures and strong spinning cause irreversible felting.
