Which style to choose

Alongside elastane and cotton, the compositions often include modal: a cellulose fibre smoother than cotton that does not pill after washing and feels cool against the skin. It is a comfortable choice for all-day wear and for skin that reacts to rougher fabrics.

Worth checking too

Soft bras work well for everyday wear, for travelling and for sleeping. If you want a smooth line under a thin blouse, reach instead for a padded model - a soft cup does not conceal the nipples.

What to look out for

If you want a set, check the range name in the product title - the bottom in the same pattern is usually listed under the same name.

In terms of construction, the selection splits roughly into three parts. Models with an underwire and a moulded cup give a smooth line under thin clothing. A dozen or so items are wire-free constructions with a soft cup and a wider band, more comfortable across a whole day. The rest are intermediate versions, with light reinforcement in the lower part of the cup. Polyamide with elastane dominates the fabrics, along with lace stitched into the upper cup panel.
