Microfibre is a very thin knitted fabric made of polyamide or polyester with added elastane. In lingerie, it is valued for being smooth, lightweight, and virtually invisible under fitted clothing. Microfibre briefs are the first choice for thin-knit dresses, pencil skirts, and leggings.

Many models are seamless: the edges are laser-cut or glued, so they don't create any lines on the thigh or waist. Such briefs also don't have a label sewn into the seam – a print replaces the label, which eliminates scratching.

Microfibre dries quickly and doesn't shrink when washed, but it doesn't absorb moisture as well as cotton. Therefore, it's worth choosing models with a cotton gusset in the crotch, especially for all-day wear and physical activity.

Microfiber has two drawbacks worth knowing about. Second, it doesn't tolerate high temperatures well: washing above 40 degrees and tumble drying will make the knit lose its smoothness and accelerate pilling.
