How to choose your size

Sister sizes for 85F: 80G, 90E. If 85F fits well around the band but the cup digs in or gapes, reach for a sister size instead of changing only the letter — the cup volume stays similar and it is the band that changes.

With a larger cup, look for styles with wide side panels, a firm band and broader straps. Soft underwired cups often hold better than rigid moulded foam.

At 85F the band measures 83-87 cm and the difference between the measurements is 25-27 cm. It is a size from the full-cup group, where stability of construction counts first and looks come second.

Which style to choose

You will recognise a well-chosen style by the band not riding up when you raise your arms and the underwire not lifting away from the chest. The edge of the cup should blend into the breast with no visible line under a thin blouse - if it makes a dent, the cup is too small.

Fabrics and comfort

Fabric matters more here than with smaller cups. Cotton with a touch of elastane is pleasant, but it stretches faster. Polyamide and elastane knits, especially with a non-stretch side panel, hold their shape for longer. Lace on the lower section looks good, but check whether it is lined - without a lining it loses shape faster.

With full cups it is also important to keep at least three pieces in rotation and wash them after two or three days of wear. Salt from perspiration speeds up the breakdown of elastane, and it is the loss of band elasticity, not fabric wear, that ends the life of a bra.
