How to choose your size

Sister sizes for 75F: 70G, 80E. If 75F fits well around the band but the cup digs in or gapes, reach for a sister size instead of changing only the letter — the cup volume stays similar and it is the band that changes.

With a larger cup, look for styles with wide side panels, a firm band and broader straps. Soft underwired cups often hold better than rigid moulded foam.

75F is a narrow band, 73-77 cm, with a difference of around 25-27 cm. That proportion rarely reaches high-street shops, so many people wear a substitute with a wider band and a smaller cup - and it is exactly that swap which makes the bra ride up at the back and dig in at the front.

The sister sizes are 70G and 80E - reach for them if the band alone feels too tight or too loose while the cup fits.

Before you choose a number, repeat the measurement twice and compare it with the size chart.

What to look out for

At this volume the construction of the side section matters. A high side, known as the side panel, gathers the tissue from under the arm and keeps the breast in place. Cups sewn from two or three panels give better support than moulded ones. Straps should be wide and adjustable along their full length.

Which style to choose

When buying, check three things once the bra is fastened: whether the band runs level, whether the underwire lies flat against the ribs and whether the top edge does not cut into the tissue. Styles from this shelf pair easily with briefs from the same line, so it is worth a look at lingerie sets.

One more thing from experience: the edge of the bottom elastic should sit against the ribs along its whole length, including under the arms. The place where slack first appears after a few months of wear is usually around the fastening - and that is what decides when to replace the bra.
