Their advantage is practical: the waistband sits above the hip line, so the briefs don't slip when you move, they don't create an indentation on the stomach, and they lie smoothly under a knitted dress.

High-waisted styles are divided into several types. Classic high briefs made of soft cotton are simply comfortable and are suitable during pregnancy and postpartum because they don't exert pressure. Versions made of dense knit fabric or microfiber have a light shaping effect and smooth the waistline under fitted clothing. Strongly compressive models with a reinforcing panel are already shapewear – wear them occasionally, as prolonged abdominal compression is simply uncomfortable. A separate group consists of high-waisted lace briefs, where the raised waist mainly provides a visual effect.

What to watch out for when buying? First and foremost, where the waistband ends: the higher it is, the more important the correct waist circumference becomes, not just the hips.
