Laces vary greatly: soft elastic lace conforms to the body and doesn't scratch, while stiffer French lace holds its pattern better but can be noticeable. If you have sensitive skin, choose models with a smooth front panel and lace only on the sides, and with a cotton gusset.

For wearing under fitted clothing, elastic lace with a flat, unfinished edge or seamless laser-cut panties work best. Thick jacquard patterns look impressive, but under thin fabric, they create a visible relief. If you want an invisible effect, choose lace with a fine weave and a color close to your skin tone.

The styles are exactly the same as in cotton: full briefs, bikinis, Brazilians, thongs, hipsters, and high-waisted models. The difference lies in the stretchiness – stretch lace allows for half a size difference, rigid lace does not. With narrow, tightly stretched elastic bands in the leg openings, digging in can easily occur, which is why models where the lace itself acts as the finish are better.

What to watch out for? Check if a cotton gusset is sewn into the crotch – this is standard in good lace panties and a matter of hygiene, not just comfort. Pay attention to the side seams: glued or flat-stitched ones are less noticeable than regular overlock seams.

Wash lace in a delicate cycle bag, without fabric softener, which weakens the elastane fibers responsible for elasticity. Dried flat, it retains its shape much longer than when hung on a line by one side.
