Delivery and returns

This collection holds products with silk in the composition - nightdresses, pyjamas, slips, bras and briefs with silk panels, and blended knits in which silk is combined with modal or cotton. Blends cost less and are far easier to wash than pure silk, while keeping most of its feel against the skin.

Washing: 30 degrees on a delicates programme, or by hand in lukewarm water, with an enzyme-free detergent - ordinary enzyme powders break down the protein fibre of silk. Do not wring; dry on a towel and iron through a cloth at the lowest setting.

When buying, check how much silk is in the composition: a few per cent changes the feel very little, while a share above one third already gives a noticeably smoother, cooler surface.

What to look out for

Silk appears in lingerie in two roles: as the main fabric, and as an addition to a knit that changes its character. We have gathered both here - most of what you will find are tights and stockings with a silk finish, alongside bras, knickers and socks.

Which style to choose

What does that thread give you? Silk fibre is smooth and close to triangular in cross-section, so it reflects light differently from polyamide - hence the characteristic matt, pearly sheen. It lies against the skin without friction, so it irritates less often and does not build up static the way pure synthetics do. It also regulates temperature well: cooling in summer, holding warmth against the body in winter.

Washing and care

Added silk raises the price, but it also changes how a piece must be washed. Wash in lukewarm water up to 30 degrees, in a mesh bag, with an enzyme-free detergent and no optical brighteners. Do not wring it out and do not dry it on a radiator - heat stiffens the fibre. Lay damp pieces flat on a towel.

If you want softness but not sheen, the alternative is bamboo briefs, equally smooth and cool to the touch. Take your size from the size chart rather than from the label of your last pair, because silk knit stretches less than cotton with elastane. There is more on compositions and care in our guide.

Store silk somewhere dry and out of direct light - UV weakens the fibre and shifts the shade of the dyes. With tights containing silk thread, watch your nails and jewellery as you put them on, because the smooth yarn ladders easily.
