Full briefs cover the bottom and give the most comfort throughout the day. Bikini briefs are the lower-rise version with narrower sides. Brazilian briefs leave part of the bottom exposed at the back while keeping full sides, so they sit between briefs and thongs. Thongs keep visible lines to a minimum under close-fitting clothes. Hipster briefs and boyshorts have a longer leg, do not ride up as you walk and work well under trousers. High-waisted knickers hug the waist and tummy, and high-waisted shorts add a shaping effect on top of that.

Replace knickers when the elastic loses its spring or the fabric starts to go sheer. A stretched-out pair stops doing its job even if nothing looks damaged.

Fabrics

Cotton breathes and works day to day. Microfibre is smooth and does not show under clothes. Lace is a choice for special occasions, but many lace styles have a cotton gusset, so they are fine for everyday wear. The composition of each style is given in the product description.

How to choose your size

What should you watch out for? The elastic - a covered waistband in a casing rolls far less often than one stitched on top. The side seams, which can leave marks under tight trousers. And the size: knickers are chosen by hip measurement, not by trouser size, and the two do not always go hand in hand.
