Tights 40 DEN

40 DEN is the threshold at which tights become opaque. DEN is a unit of yarn mass: the number of grams per 9000 meters of fiber. The higher the value, the thicker the thread, and thus the denser, more matte, and warmer the fabric. The fabric is matte and uniform; the skin does not show through. This is the most frequently purchased denier for autumn and winter, worn with dresses and skirts, both in black and in colors.

Black 40 DEN tights appear darker on the leg than 20 DEN and better conceal capillaries and discolorations. For this denier, it is advisable to choose models with flat seams and a gusset in the crotch, as the fabric is denser and seams are more noticeable.

Tights size is selected based on height and weight combined, according to the manufacturer's chart – clothing size is misleading here. Tights that are too small pull in the crotch and tear faster on the thighs; those that are too large wrinkle at the ankle and slide down at the waist. If you are on the borderline between two sizes, choose the larger one: less stressed fabric lasts longer.

How to choose your size

At this weight it is worth looking at the composition and at how the waistband is finished. A wide, flat waistband will not roll under a fitted skirt, while a narrow one tends to be less stable. If your tights slip down at the gusset, that usually means the size is too short vertically - the wrong height bracket in the chart, rather than too narrow a girth.

Which style to choose

40 DEN is a transitional weight - the knit already covers clearly, but it is not as heavy as winter styles. In practice it is the most versatile choice for autumn and spring, and in black it also works on colder winter days under a longer skirt.

The collection currently holds 36 styles, mainly from the Legs, Anmar and Conte lines. You will find plain versions and ones with a soft sheen, as well as styles with a reinforced brief that lightly smooths the hip line.

If you wear tights every day, buying two identical pairs at once works out more practical. When one leg is damaged you still have a spare in exactly the same shade, and blacks can vary between production batches more than you would expect.
